چکیده

Nine Clostridium perfringens strains were isolated from fifteen intestinal content samples collected from commercial broilers which suffered from necrotic enteritis NE. Molecular typing of C. perfringens was performed by PCR using three sets of primers specific for toxin -producing genes of C. perfringens [alpha (900bp), beta (236bp) and epsilon (541bp)]. Six strains of C. perfringens type A and three strains type D were fully identified. Comparison of alpha toxin genes among C. perfringens type A and D field isolates by nucleotide sequence analysis revealed somewhat similarity between them and published toxin genes of C. perfringens in gene bank with percentage 84 and 75% respectively also dissimilarity between type A and D field isolates was recorded with percentage 54%.

Variable protection against experimental broiler necrotic enteritis after immunization with the C-terminal fragment of Clostridium perfringens alpha-toxin and a non-toxic NetB variant

Necrotic enteritis toxin B (NetB) is a pore-forming toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens and has been shown to play a key role in avian necrotic enteritis, a disease causing significant costs to the poultry production industry worldwide. The aim of this work was to determine whether immunization with a non-toxic variant of NetB (NetB W262A) and the C-terminal fragment of C. perfringens alp...

NetB, a Pore-Forming Toxin from Necrotic Enteritis Strains of Clostridium perfringens

The Clostridium perfringens necrotic enteritis B-like toxin (NetB) is a recently discovered member of the β-barrel pore-forming toxin family and is produced by a subset of avian C. perfringens type A strains. NetB is cytotoxic for avian cells and is associated with avian necrotic enteritis. This review examines the current state of knowledge of NetB: its role in pathogenesis, its distribution a...

Highly conserved alpha-toxin sequences of avian isolates of Clostridium perfringens.

Clostridium perfringens causes necrotic enteritis in chickens, and alpha-toxin has been suggested to be a key virulence determinant. Analysis of the alpha-toxin of 25 chicken-derived C. perfringens strains demonstrated high homology to mammal-derived strains rather than to the only avian-derived C. perfringens alpha-toxin sequence reported previously.

NetB, a New Toxin That Is Associated with Avian Necrotic Enteritis Caused by Clostridium perfringens

For over 30 years a phospholipase C enzyme called alpha-toxin was thought to be the key virulence factor in necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens. However, using a gene knockout mutant we have recently shown that alpha-toxin is not essential for pathogenesis. We have now discovered a key virulence determinant. A novel toxin (NetB) was identified in a C. perfringens strain isolate...

Association between avian necrotic enteritis and Clostridium perfringens strains expressing NetB toxin

A novel toxin, NetB, has recently been identified in virulent avian Clostridium perfringens isolates and shown to be an essential virulence factor in a clinical necrotic enteritis isolate. To assess whether NetB is more generally associated with avian necrotic enteritis isolates we have screened a range of C. perfringens strains from geographically diverse locations for both the presence and ex...
